NXT’s Samoa Joe became the new NXT Champion at TakeOver 36 after defeating Andrade “Cien” Almas. Joe had a successful title reign, but his reign ended abruptly when he was defeated by Johnny Gargano at the following event.
Samoa Joe has been a part of the WWE for a long time. He won the NXT Championship at TakeOver 36, becoming the new champion.
Since becoming Champion, Karrion Kross has dominated NXT, but the arrival of Samoa Joe has disturbed that reign, bringing in someone who is just as lethal and intimidating as the Champion. After weeks of attempting to outdo each other and take each other down, the NXT Championship was ultimately decided tonight in the main event. Joe landed two big chops to Kross after they circled one other for a few moments. Kross would surround Joe, but Joe would dodge him and throw another chop, as well as a huge chop to the back and a kick to the chest.
Kross gained momentum by bouncing off the ropes, but Joe caught him in a Clutch, allowing Kross to escape and throw Joe to the floor outside the ring. He smashed Joe into the barriers with a powerful forearm to the back. Kross rolled Joe back into the ring and stomped on his hand and kicked him, followed by more forearms and punches, looking fairly confident.
Joe followed up with two more chops and a headbutt, but Kross countered with a kick to the face and a Doomsday Saito, which Joe kicked out of. Kross then locked in an Ankle Lock, but Joe managed to pull Kross to the ringside floor. Joe rolled Kross in, but he was cornered by Kross. Kross followed up with additional elbows and clotheslines, as well as a smash to the mat, but Joe managed to kick out of the pin.
Joe caught Kross and hit him with a Power Slam, but Kross kicked out of the pin. Joe Power Bombed Kross, but he raised his shoulder, so Joe locked in a submission hold on him and transitioned into a series of submissions in the middle of the ring. Kross managed to break the rope, but Joe caused considerable harm. Kross booted a charging Joe in the face and then struck Joe with a huge knee to the face, but Joe kicked out of the cover.
More forearms to the back of Joe’s head from Kross, followed by a stomp on Joe’s hand and a DDT, but Joe kicked out again. Kross continued to hit Joe and attempted to bounce off the ropes, but Joe intervened and suplexed Kross. Joe continued to evade Kross’ attacks until landing a huge boot and a Senton, but Kross kicked out of the pin. Then another Senton landed on Kross’ back, followed by a Coquina Clutch from Joe. Kross attempted to get to the ropes, but Joe dragged him back to the ground and locked it in.
Joe continued to battle as Kross slid out and engaged in an arm breaker. Kross went for the Cross Jacket, but he wouldn’t go down without a fight, pushing Kross into the turnbuckle. Kross retaliated with a forearm and was about to finish it off when Joe caught him with a Uranage. Kross caught Joe with a boot to the head, but Joe countered with a huge kick to the head, then scooped up Kross and hit a Muscle Buster, and that was it for Kross, as Joe earned the three-count and the victory, becoming the new NXT Champion.
