Black Jesus is an American television sitcom which aired from 2015 until 2018. The series follows a black man, named Marcus Williams, who was raised by God as the messiah and now returns to earth. It has been praised for being self-aware of its themes and tackling sensitive topics such as religion, race relations in America, classism and other social issues head on with humour
When the term became a viral meme in 2019, it was difficult not to think of parallels between different religions and black culture. The ‘Jesus Movement’ that started with social media stars like Lil Nas X has seeped into other communities such as Christianity and Islam much more than anyone could have predicted.
Black Jesus is a term used to describe the black man who is the son of God. This character has been in different media, but most notably on NBC’s “The Good Place.”
The argument over who is the NBA’s greatest player is never-ending, and there is no conclusive answer. It always boils down to Michael Jordan and LeBron James in the end, but if you poll 100 people, you’ll get 50 votes for one guy and 50 votes for the other.
When debating the argument in 2018, Allen Iverson, one of the Hall of Famers who played against both Jordan and James, voted for “Black Jesus.”
Both Michael Jordan and LeBron James were defeated by Allen Iverson.
During his Hall of Fame career, Iverson had the good fortune to play against both Jordan and James, and he was one of the rare players who got the better of both.
Iverson averaged 29.8 points per game in 13 games versus Jordan, compared to 23.5 for MJ. Jordan’s teams won seven of the 13 games, but it was Iverson who made the most famous play in the rivalry.
In just his third game versus the Chicago Bulls great, Iverson memorably crossed over Jordan and nailed an amazing shot. Despite A.I.’s 37 points and four assists, the Bulls were able to overcome the Philadelphia 76ers in the end.
Iverson also played 18 games versus LeBron James, winning ten of them, averaging 25.8 points and 7.7 assists per game. He saw enough of Jordan and James during his career, so he’s well-qualified to weigh in on the GOAT discussion.

Iverson wrote an article for the Players Tribune in 2018 that covered a number of themes. One of such issues was the GOAT argument, in which A.I. voted decisively for Jordan.
Iverson tweeted, “Alright, I have to weigh in on this GOAT thing.”
“I’m forced to.” These days, I hear a lot of folks fronting like they have LeBron over Mike!!
“Listen up, man. First and foremost, I adore LeBron James. I have nothing but admiration for LeBron James. That’s the finest player of his generation, one of the best ever, a wonderful spouse, parent, and role model, and it goes even further: what is he doing with that Akron school?? It’s a lovely thing.
“We’re discussing Mike.”
“O.K., we’re talking about Mike?”
“We’re talking about the man himself, Black Jesus.”
“I’m afraid I’m at a loss for words beyond that. Mike is the GOAT…… Mike will always be the GOAT. And please don’t disrespect me with your “stats, AI!” nonsense, as if you think you can persuade me to change my view.”
The guy was heard.
Could LeBron ever catch Michael Jordan?
LeBron’s numbers are comparable to Jordan’s, and some may say that they’re even better. But it always comes down to how many rings you have on your finger in the GOAT discussion.
James is still playing at a high level for the Los Angeles Lakers, who have a championship-caliber squad, but he still needs two more championships to equal Jordan for the most in NBA history. If he does, Iverson’s vote in the GOAT argument may alter.
